Springbank Care Home, an award-winning local care home, is launching a new campaign to raise awareness of constipation amongst staff members, residents and their families. The campaign, called ‘Ease the Strain – Constipation Campaign’, will run in the homes Heather Lounge this week.
Constipation is a common problem among older adults, with 80% of care home residents aged over 65 reported to have experienced chronic constipation. Constipation can be caused by a number of factors, including dehydration, lack of exercise, and certain medications. Constipation can lead to a number of complications, including abdominal pain, bloating, and haemorrhoids.
The ‘Ease the Strain – Constipation Campaign’ will provide the home community with information about constipation, its causes, and how to prevent and treat it. The campaign will also feature a free prize draw for anyone who completes a questionnaire on the topic.
“At Springbank we continue to focus on safe, high-quality and compassionate care. We put emphasis on quality training to ensure staff continue to update their knowledge and are supported to feel part of the collaborative team of health professionals that visit our home. To empower staff to review their knowledge against current best practice and industry norms.”
Said Lisa Noble, Home Manager. “Our new ‘Ease the Strain – Constipation Campaign’ follows the NHS launch in July 2023 which focused on those living with a learning disability. Our training expands on this campaign making it relevant to those we care for at Springbank.
The ‘Ease the Strain – Constipation Campaign’ follows on from Springbank’s ‘Antipsychotic Medication Reduction’ and ‘Smiling Matters’ initiatives, as part of Springbank Care Home’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality residential care, following Spellman Care’s core values of Kindness, Dignity and Compassion.
