Springbank Care Home recently hosted a valuable meeting for residents and their families, welcoming Mark and Caroline from Say Aphasia Skipton. During the session, Mark and Caroline offered a comprehensive introduction to Aphasia, a communication difficulty that can affect individuals’ ability to speak, understand, read, and write.
The session provided residents and their loved ones with a deeper understanding of Aphasia, exploring its causes and effective communication techniques. Mark and Caroline emphasized the importance of Aphasia etiquette, offering valuable insights into interacting effectively with individuals experiencing the condition.
This insightful meeting marks the beginning of a collaborative effort between Springbank Care Home and Say Aphasia Skipton. Looking ahead, both organizations are committed to further staff training and raising awareness of Aphasia, particularly during Aphasia Awareness Month in June. This collaboration aims to enhance communication and understanding within the care home, ensuring residents with Aphasia receive the best possible support and care.
“We are dedicated to providing exceptional care to all our residents, and that includes understanding and addressing their individual needs,” said Lisa Noble, Home Manager at Springbank Care Home. “We are grateful to Mark and Caroline for sharing their expertise and look forward to working with Say Aphasia to enhance our communication with residents affected by Aphasia.”
Mark & Caroline from Say Aphasia Skipton said… “It was lovely to be invited along to Springbank Care Home to talk about Aphasia as not many people are aware of this isolating condition or what it is like to live with day to day. It was an opportunity to share experiences with the residents, their families and staff at Springbank. It was wonderful to see Springbank Care Home taking the initiative and leading a campaign about raising awareness of Aphasia. The Say Aphasia Skipton group supports those with Aphasia and their families and holds a monthly drop in group at Skipton Town Hall. Anyone with Aphasia is welcome to come along to the Skipton group and it is an opportunity to practise communication skills and build some confidence by sharing experiences of living with Aphasia. Please Email skipton@sayaphasia.org for further details of the Skipton group or visit the Say Aphasia website on www.sayaphasia.org for more information about Aphasia”
