A Day at Springbank Care Home: Where Kindness meets Dignity and Compassion

The Start of the Day

As the first rays of sun hit the historic turret of Springbank Care Home, a gentle rhythm of life begins to unfold. The day team arrives promptly at 7:00 AM, gathering in the Snowdrop Lounge for a thorough handover with the night senior. They discuss each resident’s preferences, appointments, and plans for the day, ensuring every individual receives personalised care.

The morning starts calmly, with residents waking at their own pace and following their preferred routines. Our staff are always on hand to offer a helping hand whenever it’s needed.

Just before breakfast, the first medication round begins. Our dedicated, medication-trained senior carers move quietly and discreetly, taking away the worry and stress of medication management from our residents. They ensure everyone receives their essential medicine on time as the day starts. Following close behind, our beloved Activity Coordinator, Lorraine, does her morning newspaper rounds. “Good morning, everyone!” she chirps, delivering the day’s news and a cheerful word to each resident, setting a bright and positive tone for the day.

Downstairs, the heart of the home—the kitchen—is already a hive of activity. Our wonderful chefs, Eve and Lucy, who know everyone’s tastes by heart, are preparing a delightful breakfast spread. Residents are free to enjoy their morning meal where and when they like, whether that’s in the dining room with friends, in the comfort of their own room, or even out on the sunny patio for a breath of fresh air. They simply choose their meal from a wide variety of freshly prepared options, ensuring everyone enjoys a delicious start to their day.

Out on the lawn, our skilled gardeners set to work, trimming every plant and meticulously manicuring the lawn to create a beautiful, welcoming space for our residents to relax in.

The Manager’s Daily Walkaround

No day is complete without our Home Manager, Lisa Pickles, doing her daily walkaround. This is a special time dedicated to checking in with everyone, making sure both residents and staff are happy and well. Lisa takes a moment to have a friendly chat, asking residents about their plans for the day and staff how they are doing. She also observes the surroundings, ensuring the environment is perfectly calm, welcoming, and safe, and that the staff are looking smart and ready to provide the high-quality service we are so proud of. This friendly, dedicated check is a cornerstone of our commitment to excellence.

Mid-Morning Delights

After breakfast, the home is abuzz with energy. While some residents gather for a gentle armchair exercise session or a reading group, others head to ‘The Bloom Room’, our luxury salon. Today, the local hairdresser is in, and the air is filled with the scent of freshly washed hair and happy chatter. It’s a wonderful opportunity for a pamper session; manicures and nail paints are on offer, and residents can enjoy a lovely cup of coffee in the salon’s cosy nook, catching up with friends.

Lunchtime

As the morning’s activities wind down, lunchtime is a true highlight of the day. Residents are free to enjoy their meal wherever they feel most comfortable, whether that’s in the dining room with friends or in the privacy of their own room. Our dining room, set with crisp linens, polished cutlery, and fresh flowers, offers a sense of occasion. Our chefs, Eve and Lucy, often pop out of the kitchen to help serve the food and to get feedback on the menu, fostering a lovely personal connection. Residents are encouraged to eat at their own pace.

Afternoon: Community and Camaraderie

After lunch, residents have a choice of what to do. While a group heads out for a community adventure in the home’s WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle), there is always a planned activity for those who prefer a quiet afternoon in. Today, that might be a friendly game of dominoes or a crafting session in the lounge. The WAV is on hand every day for smaller trips, from doctor’s appointments to a quick visit to a local café, perfectly complementing the larger minibus that arrives every Wednesday for big group excursions.

Today is Thursday, which means it’s time for the Thursday Club at the local Methodist Church. The home has a strong link to the community, and we believe it is vital to keep our residents involved. The short trip in our comfortable WAV allows them to socialise with old friends and make new ones, fostering a sense of connection that is so important.

Evening and Night: Rest and Reassurance

As the afternoon fades, residents enjoy a lighter supper, with the flexibility to choose their dining location to suit their mood. The evening winds down with a selection of gentle activities, from a film screening to a music session or simply a quiet chat. Our final medication round then takes place.

The day at Springbank gently culminates in a thorough handover at 7pm when the night senior returns. This ensures a seamless transition of care and peace of mind for our residents. As night falls, the night team takes over, providing quiet reassurance and support throughout the evening. Residents can rest easy, knowing they are safe, comfortable, and well-cared for. Springbank is not just a place to live; it’s a community where every day is centred around the well-being and happiness of its residents, from the historic turret that watches over us to the personalised care that fills our days.
