Residents and staff across Spellman Care came together on World Parkinson’s Day, held on the 11th of April, to raise vital funds for Parkinson’s UK, the leading charity in the fight against Parkinson’s.
Ghyll Royd Care Home, located in Guiseley, kicked things off on the morning of the 11th with a delightful coffee morning open to the whole community. Residents, families, and local residents enjoyed a delicious spread of refreshments and cakes, fostering connections and raising awareness for Parkinson’s.
Springbank Care Home in Silsden hosted a unique event dubbed the ‘Pie Crawl.’ A Springbank resident with a love of pies, Ken, who himself has Parkinson’s, headed out into the local community to taste some of the best pies on offer, collecting samples to bring back to Springbank for a ‘Pie Stall’ for his fellow residents to sample!
Steeton Court Nursing Home treated residents and visitors to a special fundraising buffet. Residents enjoyed a delectable selection of food, creating a memorable and supportive atmosphere.
Craven Nursing Home in Skipton held a staff ‘non-uniform’ day, encouraging employees to wear blue, the signature colour of Parkinson’s UK, in return for a donation.
“Parkinsons UK is a charity close to our hearts at Spellman Care, as we have several residents living with Parkinsons across the group” said Philippa Young, Group Operations Manager. “It was fantastic to see so many members of the Spellman Care community getting involved to raise money!”
The fundraiser for Parkinson’s UK concluded on Monday 22nd, with a total of £179.32 raised across Spellman Care. The group now has fundraisers underway for MacMillan and Dementia Friendly Keighley which will conclude shortly.
