@spellmancare Taste of the World: India! 🇮🇳✨ Our dining room at Ghyll Royd Care Home has been filled with the most incredible aromas today! As part of our monthly ‘Taste of the World’ lunches, our residents have spent the afternoon being whisked away to India with a spectacular themed feast. 🥘🌶️ It was a true celebration of spice and flavour! Everyone tucked into a wonderful selection of mains, from a rich Keema Bhuna and Cod Tikka Masala to a fragrant Lentil and Aubergine dish. The Rogan Josh and Saag Aloo were also huge favourites, making today’s lunch a real highlight for everyone. 🍛🙌 The table was packed with all the trimmings you could imagine! We enjoyed crispy Poppadoms, Samosas, Onion Bhajis, and Vegetable Pakoras, all served alongside fluffy Naans, Chapatis, and Pilau Rice. To cool things down, we had fresh Mango Lassi and a refreshing Cucumber and Mint Riata. 🥭🥣 We finished the afternoon on a sweet note with some truly traditional treats! Our residents loved the Cardamom Nankhatai, the saffron-infused Badam Barfi, and the classic, syrupy Gulab Jamun. The Coconut Ladoo was the perfect final bite to end such a vibrant day. 🍬🥥 We love seeing our residents explore new flavours and share stories over such a beautiful spread. We wonder where we will be "travelling" to next month? ✈️🌍

Residents at Ghyll Royd Care Home were whisked away to the vibrant streets of India last week as part of the home’s new monthly ‘Taste of the World’ culinary series. The event marked the second stop on a global gastronomic tour, following a successful Italian-themed afternoon in January.
The home’s conservatory was transformed for the occasion, vibrantly decorated with traditional Indian decor to set the scene. To complement the atmosphere, residents enjoyed breathtaking video footage of India showcased on the home’s ‘Tiny Tablet’ – a large, TV-sized Android touchscreen device that brought the sights of the country to life alongside the flavours.
The dining room was filled with incredible aromas as the home’s kitchen team prepared a spectacular themed feast. The extensive menu featured a range of traditional mains, including Keema Bhuna, Cod Tikka Masala, and a fragrant Lentil and Aubergine dish, alongside favourites such as Rogan Josh and Saag Aloo. To ensure an authentic experience, the meal was accompanied by a vast array of sides, including Samosas, Onion Bhajis, Vegetable Pakoras, and fresh Mango Lassi.
The ‘Taste of the World’ initiative was launched following valuable feedback gathered from the Resident and Relative Survey conducted towards the end of 2025. These surveys are completed on a quarterly basis, reflecting Ghyll Royd and Spellman Care’s firm belief that there is always room for improvement and a commitment to introducing fresh, engaging experiences for those in their care.
Robee Gelido, Home Manager at Ghyll Royd Care Home, commented: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of our Indian Café. Seeing our residents explore new flavours and share stories over such a beautiful spread is exactly why we started this initiative. It is vital to us that we listen to our residents and their families, and these monthly events are a direct result of our commitment to acting on their feedback to enhance daily life at the home.”
Luke, Head Chef at Ghyll Royd Care Home, added: “It has been a joy for the kitchen team to step outside our usual menu and delve into the rich spices and techniques of Indian cuisine. From the cardamom-infused Nankhatai to the saffron-infused Badam Barfi, we wanted to provide an authentic taste experience. Seeing the residents enjoy the food and seeing the dining rooms and conservatory so full of life and scent makes all the preparation worthwhile.”
The event also served as a wonderful catalyst for reminiscence. Residents shared how delicious the food was and how lovely it felt to sample different cuisines. For many, the flavours brought back fond memories of eating out in years gone by; one couple specifically recalled the many happy evenings they had spent at their local Indian restaurant in the past.
The global tour is set to continue throughout the year, with a Mexican feast scheduled for 18th March, followed by trips to China, Greece, and the Caribbean in the coming months.
