As we see the end of 2024, Spellman Care takes a moment to reflect on a remarkable year. It has been a year that has seen us not only achieve great things but also solidify our commitment to excellence in everything we do.
We began the year with the launch of our innovative Staff Wellbeing and Development Hub in January, recognizing the importance of investing in our staff’s well-being. This commitment was further emphasized in April with the launch of ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’ for staff, and the expansion of the staff hub in June.
Springbank Care Home shone brightly throughout the year. In January, they achieved the prestigious carehome.co.uk award for the second time. They continued their success by welcoming the buildings previous owners and staff for a tour in February, and by championing Intergenerational Linking with their ‘Schools Out For Summer’ play sessions in July. They also expanded our ‘Wellbeing and Development Hub’ in October, creating our first in-house training video on dementia, and launched the ‘Adopt a Grandfriend’ campaign to break intergenerational boundaries.
Another highlight of the year was Steeton Court Nursing Home being nominated for the Community Arts Award at the Yorkshire Choice Awards in February. They also held a vote and announced new Unit Names amid a refurbishment in June.
In March, Springbank Care Home welcomed Say Aphasia Skipton to the home for an aphasia awareness talk, demonstrating our commitment to resident well-being.
As a group, we were proud to be named the ‘Best Luxury Nursing & Residential Care Home Enterprise’ in the GHP Social Care Awards 2024 in April. We also signed the Armed Forces Covenant in April, and showed our support on World Parkinson’s Day, raising £180 for charity. Three of our homes even reached the finals of the ‘Dementia in Care Awards’ in April.
In May, Ghyll Royd Care Home said farewell to its longest-serving colleagues, and we achieved a fantastic SEVEN finalist nominations in the Stars of Social Care Awards.
June saw the conclusion of the first stage of our ‘Staff Wellbeing Project’ and Ghyll Royd Care Home became the first Spellman Care home to reduce its carbon footprint with Solar Panels, making a remarkable reduction of 21,637 kg of CO2 emissions annually – that’s the equivalent weight of eight and a bit Spellman Care minibuses!
In July, our homes opened their doors for Care Home Open Week, and Springbank Care Home continued their intergenerational work with their ‘Schools Out For Summer’ play sessions.
August brought news of Spellman Care being shortlisted for the Keighley & Airedale Business Awards, which we followed up by being named a Finalist in the Social Care Leadership Awards in September.
September was a month of success. The Springbank Care Home laundry team reached the finals of the Love Laundry Awards, we reached the finals of the Great British Care Awards in the Care Employer Award category, and we WON the Independent/Family Business of the Year award at the Keighley and Airedale Business Awards.
In October, we celebrated our achieving the Veteran Friendly Framework Accreditation and Springbank Care Home continued the expansion of our ‘Wellbeing and Development Hub’. We also hosted our first joint session with ‘Exclusively Inclusive’ and launched the ‘Adopt a Grandfriend’ campaign.
November saw Spellman Care Managers reach the ‘WAGS’ award finals for the third consecutive year, and three of our colleagues at Ghyll Royd Care Home were nominated in the Leeds Quality In Care Awards!
Finally, this month, we concluded the year with our annual Christmas Present Appeal and the return of our popular Christmas Video.
