Steeton Court Nursing Home to hold ‘Adopt a Grand-Friend Celebration & Sign Up Event’

Following the successful expansion of its popular intergenerational initiative over the recent summer holidays, Spellman Care is delighted to announce a new event to celebrate the ‘Adopt a Grand-Friend’ scheme. The event will take place on Wednesday, 29th October, at 2.30pm at Steeton Court Nursing Home, and has been specifically scheduled to coincide with the school half-term holidays to encourage greater participation from local families.

The ‘Adopt a Grand-Friend’ scheme has been a resounding success since its widespread launch across all Spellman Care homes. It has successfully bridged the gap between generations, fostering meaningful connections and enriching the lives of both young people and residents. The upcoming event is an opportunity for those involved to celebrate existing friendships and for new participants to sign up and find their own ‘Grand-Friend’.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response from the community,” says Caroline Cowland, Home Manager at Steeton Court Nursing Home. “The scheme has created so many wonderful bonds. Our residents love sharing their stories and wisdom, and the young people bring such energy and joy into our homes. This event is a celebration of that success and a warm invitation for new friends to join our family.”

The celebration will be an afternoon tea, providing a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees. The event is open to everyone, including existing ‘Grand-Friends’ and those aged 5 to 18 who are interested in taking part. Attendance is free of charge.

Spellman Care remains committed to the profound benefits of intergenerational activities, which include:

  • For Young People: Building communication skills, fostering empathy, and gaining valuable life lessons from the unique perspectives of residents.
  • For Residents: Reducing loneliness, providing mental stimulation, and enjoying a renewed sense of purpose and connection.
