Our History
Our company was established in 1990 with the opening of Steeton Court Nursing Home. Our aim was to build a modern luxurious environment that felt like a home from home. We are a family business that has worked hard to ensure we have never lost sight of the values on which our business was founded. We are passionately dedicated to providing an outstanding quality of care and accommodation which enriches the lives of our residents.
In 2001 we opened Ghyll Royd Care Home, followed by Craven Nursing Home in 2004 and Springbank Residential Home in 2017. We are extremely proud of all our homes, and are constantly looking at ways to improve the environment and facilities to ensure our residents live in beautiful surroundings that they can really call Home.
Over the last 34 years, the family’s commitment has been to provide the very best care for our residents, whatever their needs. We have had numerous awards for the outstanding quality of care we provide and along with our highly skilled team of Nurses, Carers and Home Managers, we are renowned for providing a consistent and high-quality standard of care.

The Last Thirty Five Years...

Whilst our first home was founded 35 years ago, the story that led to the creation of Spellman Care dates back much further, starting with the construction of Springbank in Silsden.
Sometime in the 1870's, Mill owner George Jacques commissioned the construction of Springbank, a grand family home in Silsden with large formal gardens.

On the 20th February 1989, work started on constructing our first home, Steeton Court.

By the 14th of June 1990, Steeton Court was ready to welcome it's first residents!

On the 9th July 2001, Ghyll Royd Nursing Home joined the Spellman Care family.
*Interesting Fact: Although long since demolished, similarly to Springbank Care Home, Ghyll Royd sits on the site of a former mill owners house.

The Spellman family acquired their third home on the 11th of February 2004.
The home had previously been a farmhouse, a pub and a nightclub, before being converted into a nursing home by it's former owner.
Soon after acquisition, work began to refurbish the Craven to bring it in line with the groups premium standards.

In 2015 Spellman Care acquired Springbank.
Since being built in the 1870's, the house had been run as a Nursing Home.
Upon acquisition, work began to transform the building into a modern residential care home, with great care taken to maintain the buildings historic features.
Transforming Springbank

Following an extensive refurbishment, Springbank Care Home welcomed it's first residents in October 2017.

In October 2022 we took delivery of 'The Spellman Express' (as it is known to residents)!

In 2023 we were proud to be 'Highly Commended' at the Stars of Social Care Awards in London, hosted by ITV This Morning Presenter Josie Gibson.

In 2023 Ghyll Royd Nursing Home opened it's brand new Residential Dementia Community, Blossom.
Ghyll Royd also changed it's name to Ghyll Royd Care Home to encompass the new community.
