During what has become a remarkable period of recognition, Spellman Care is thrilled to announce that its team and individual professionals have secured ten finalist spots at the prestigious Stars of Social Care Awards. This news arrives less than a month after the family run group celebrated four finalist positions at the inaugural Stars of Social Care (Teams) Awards, further cementing the reputation of Spellman Care as a leader in high quality and independent care.

For a family run group, achieving ten national finalist nominations is a significant milestone that underscores the heartfelt dedication of the individuals working across the homes to ensure residents receive exceptional and person led support.

Spellman Care is incredibly proud to celebrate the following team members and home initiatives:

  • Jackie Campbell (Invaluable Volunteer Award): A former family member who entrusted Springbank with the care of a parent, Jackie now leads heartwarming singing sessions that bring joy and connection to both Springbank’s residents and patients at the Airedale Centre for Mental Health.
  • Philippa Young (Outstanding Contribution to Care Homes Award): Philippa is celebrated for a deep understanding of the care sector and an unwavering commitment to the small details that transform care homes into true homes.
  • Sarah Oddy (Amazing Activities Coordinator Award): By blending a professional graphic design background with infectious passion, Sarah has revolutionised the activity programme at Steeton Court to create meaningful and high-quality projects for residents.
  • Peter Chadwick (Great Marketeer Award): Peter is redefining social care marketing by ensuring communication enriches the daily lives of residents and staff through community-focused initiatives and accessible information channels.
  • April Howie (Fabulous Frontline Leader Award): An inspiring leader, April has driven innovation at Springbank by spearheading projects like the ‘Through Our Eyes’ photography exhibition and developing interactive dementia training for staff.
  • Jenny Newiss (New To Care Award): Starting as a Care Assistant during the pandemic, the rapid progression of Jenny to Senior Care Lead reflects a strong commitment to professionalism and the wellbeing of residents.
  • Eve Kelk (Care Home Nutrition Award): Eve combines expert piping and moulding techniques for texture-modified meals with a passion for innovation, including contributing to University of Leeds research into food for those with swallowing difficulties.
  • Spellman Care (Outstanding Care Home Provider Award): This nomination reflects an unwavering dedication to acting as a pillar of the local community through intergenerational schemes, charitable work, and a commitment to sector-leading research.
  • Spellman Care (Care Home Design Award): The group is recognised for a relentless commitment to creating modern, safe, and responsive living spaces that prioritise resident comfort and quality of life through collaborative design.
  • Springbank Care Home (Learning & Development Award): The team is honoured for the pioneering use of ethical AI integration to bring residents’ pasts to life through portraits, alongside a rigorous and hands-on approach to staff training.

The passion and commitment shown by these individuals are fundamental to the daily success of every home. This hard work remains a cornerstone of the care provided, and these recognitions are a victory for the entire organisation.

A Message from Steven Spellman, Director of Spellman Care

“Seeing the team members and homes recognised ten times on a national stage is a moment of immense pride for the family. It reaffirms the belief that being an independent and family run provider is the greatest strength, as it allows Spellman Care to prioritise the personal, heart led care that truly makes a difference. These nominations reflect the relentless dedication of the staff, who bring innovation, kindness, and skill to the homes every single day. Whether Spellman Care is being recognised for design, nutrition, marketing, or frontline leadership, these accolades belong to every member of the Spellman Care family.”

This spirit of forward-thinking innovation, clearly reflected in these national award nominations, continues with the announcement of two new, exciting initiatives currently in development. Something big is brewing behind the scenes, with two secret projects underway that aim to enhance the lives of residents and strengthen the connections that make the homes so special. One initiative is dedicated to the local community, while the other is crafted for the incredible colleagues who go above and beyond every single day. These plans are designed to take the vibrant atmosphere across the homes to the next level, ensuring residents continue to thrive in an environment that truly feels like a family. Spellman Care encourages everyone to keep a close eye on social media, as the curtains will be pulled back on the community-focused project tomorrow (7th May), with a call for the community to help bring this vision to life.

The winners are set to be announced on 13th June at The Leonardo Royal London St Paul’s, in a ceremony hosted by ITV’s This Morning presenter, Josie Gibson. Regardless of the final results, this record number of nominations is a resounding endorsement of the approach Spellman Care takes to delivering exceptional, compassionate care that serves the community.
