Join the Spellman Care Family
At Spellman Care, our residents always come first. As a family-run group of residential and nursing care homes, we know that delivering exceptional, compassionate, and person-led care starts with creating a warm, supportive, and deeply rewarding environment for our staff. Whether you are looking to embark on your very first role in health and social care or seeking to step into clinical leadership or home management, joining Spellman Care means becoming part of a close-knit team where your contributions are genuinely valued, your personal growth is actively supported, and your wellbeing is championed every single day.
Our Staff Wellbeing & Development Hub
We believe that looking after our team is essential to providing the highest standard of care for our residents. To ensure every colleague feels supported both personally and professionally, we created the Spellman Care Wellbeing & Development Hub as a dedicated central resource. Hard work never goes unnoticed at Spellman Care, with exclusive staff perks, discount schemes, and structured recognition opportunities continually expressing our gratitude.
Wellbeing Wednesday
Dedicated to staff appreciation, physical health, and togetherness, Wellbeing Wednesday is our signature group-wide initiative running across all four of our care homes. Every Wednesday brings a distinct focus designed to boost morale, lower stress, and foster peer connection across shift teams. To keep energy levels high throughout the day, dedicated hydration and refreshment stations are set up in every home, offering free fresh fruit, revitalising drinks, and healthy snacks for all staff members on shift.
Extra Mile Awards (EMAs)
Celebrated on the second Wednesday of every month, our Extra Mile Awards serve as a vital bi-weekly recognition moment honouring exceptional team members across our homes. The EMAs showcase and reward clear examples of person-centred care, recognising colleagues who consistently go above and beyond to support our residents. By shining a spotlight on individual dedication, these awards highlight the compassionate, high-quality care that defines our family-run culture.
Community Connections & Peer Recognition
On the first Wednesday of each month, we host Community Breakfasts across our homes, opening our doors to bring residents, relatives, staff members, visiting professionals, and local emergency service workers together over a warm morning meal. Later in the month, on the fourth Wednesday, we run our ‘Say Thank You’ peer recognition drive. Throughout the preceding weeks, staff members post thank-you cards in staff rooms, which are then distributed to celebrate individual contributions, daily acts of kindness, and shared team accomplishments.
Real Career Journeys & Staff Stories
Our team members are the heart of Spellman Care, and their personal career paths illustrate the genuine opportunities for progression, long-term stability, and personal fulfilment within our homes.

Steph joined Spellman Care back in November 2002 as a Care Assistant and has consistently gone above and beyond for our residents. In June 2008, she achieved her Registered General Nurse qualification, further enhancing her clinical expertise. Over the years, Steph progressed through various key leadership roles, including Clinical Lead on Nights and Deputy Manager, before proudly taking on the role of Home Manager at Craven Nursing Home. Driven by a passion for palliative and end-of-life care, Steph continues to lead her team with a commitment to delivering compassionate, person-centred care with dignity and respect.

Rachael Houldsworth is Steeton Court’s Senior Administrator and Spellman Care’s longest-serving team member, boasting an incredible 35 years of dedicated service. Rachael joined us in 1990 when Steeton Court first opened its doors, welcoming our very first residents and showing families around on open days. Over the decades, she supported the smooth running of the home through major facility extensions and helped organise memorable resident outings, waving our residents off on minibus trips to heritage railways, local zoos, and the Blackpool Illuminations.

April Howie joined Spellman Care in 2018 as a Domestic Assistant after graduating from Lancaster University with a degree in History. Discovering her true passion for social care, April rapidly progressed to Care Assistant, Senior Care Assistant, and ultimately Deputy Manager at Springbank Care Home. Along her journey, she completed her Level 3 and Level 5 Health and Social Care qualifications, became a finalist in prestigious national awards like the Stars of Social Care Awards and Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards, and led impactful resident campaigns including oral health initiatives and filming our first in-house staff training video.
Our Values
At the heart of Spellman Care is a culture built on strong, established values. In 2022, the Spellman Care community—including our residents, relatives, and staff—came together to vote on three core values that truly represent everything we stand for. Our dedicated teams strive to provide truly person-centred and person-led care, meaning every element of support is designed specifically around the unique needs and preferences of each resident, and is guided by these shared values. We believe that living in one of our Homes should be synonymous with enjoying life to the fullest. Driven by our long-standing family ethos, we ensure a genuine home-from-home atmosphere, welcoming every resident into our community with kindness, dignity, and compassion. We are truly honoured to be entrusted with their care.
