Springbank Care Home resident George has raised £2,500 for the British Dyslexia Association through the sale of his book “A salmon or two”.

The book, self-published by George in September 2022, tells the story of George and his life as a salmon fisherman on the River Tweed from the 1950s to the 1980s.

On Monday afternoon, George and his family met with a representative from the British Dyslexia Association to discuss the achievement, and to hand over the cheque.

The British Dyslexia Association is a national charity that provides support to people with dyslexia and their families.

Lisa Noble, Home Manager at Springbank said… “We are so proud of George for his achievement in raising £2,500 for the British Dyslexia Association. His story is an inspiration to others with dyslexia, and we are delighted that he has been able to use his experience to help others. We’re happy that we were able to assist George in the sale of his book, both at Springbank, and in the local community, including at our stall Addingham Coronation Celebrations. Springbank continues to support George in breaking down the barriers surrounding dyslexia”

He has highlighted the challenges of being dyslexic but ultimately his life and achievements are testament to his resilience and amazing skills and strength!”
