Building on the tremendous triumph of their June launch, the vibrant community initiative returned for a heartwarming second event filled with creative workshops, uplifting entertainment, and crucial local support.
The Airedale Seniors Collective has celebrated another resounding success following its second official gathering, bringing together older residents, passionate local organisations, and neighbours from across the Aire Valley for a joyful skills-share afternoon at Silsden Methodist Church. The event proved to be a wonderful celebration of community spirit, creativity, and connection, reinforcing the collective’s core mission to brighten lives, combat social isolation, and provide a welcoming, supportive space for local seniors.
This latest gathering follows on from the collective’s magnificent launch event in June at Sutton Village Hall, where guests enjoyed their very first glimpse of what the initiative has to offer. That memorable summer debut featured uplifting live music from singer Shane, a wide variety of stallholders offering advice and guidance, and a bustling atmosphere that set the stage for the group’s future. Driven entirely by feedback from that inaugural event, the second gathering was specifically tailored around a request from an attendee who suggested an afternoon focused on sharing talents and learning together.
The atmosphere at Silsden Methodist Church was electric as attendees immersed themselves in a rich variety of hands-on activities, swapping tips and hobbies ranging from crochet and jewellery making to practical DIY and IT support. The event offered something for everyone, combining everyday guidance with artistic expression and plenty of warm conversation. Adding to the festive environment, talented vocalist May delivered a fantastic live musical performance that had guests singing along and enjoying the entertainment throughout the afternoon.
Community partnerships were once again at the heart of the event, with the collective handing over the microphone to several fantastic local businesses and support groups dedicated to enhancing the lives of older citizens. Guests had the opportunity to discover valuable services from fresh food delivery provider Olive & Green, ready meal specialists Wiltshire Farm Foods, Keighley Lions Club, Keighley Dementia Advice Community Group, Carelink Befriending Scheme, and The Thursday Club.
