Spellman Care is celebrating the conclusion of a fantastic summer fete season following its final event earlier this month. Across all four care homes (Craven Nursing Home, Ghyll Royd Care Home, Springbank Care Home and Steeton Court Nursing Home), the celebrations brought together residents, their families, and members of the local community, raising over £1,200 in total for residents’ funds and designated charities. Each care home hosted its own distinctively themed event, offering a wide array of entertainment, food, stalls, and music.
The season kicked off at Ghyll Royd Care Home, where residents and guests were welcomed to a Secret Garden Country Fete featuring sensory experiences, live music, tea, and local stalls. The home was delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Stephen Holroyd, who delivered a moving speech emphasizing the vital role homes like Ghyll Royd play for those living with dementia. The speech also highlighted the work of Andy’s Man Club, which was proudly supported as Ghyll Royd’s official 2026 fete charity.
Next up was Craven Nursing Home, which hosted a 60’s Funk themed Summer Fete in its gardens. Residents, visitors, and staff persevered through the windy weather to enjoy an afternoon packed with stalls, games, food, and music. The team extended a sincere thank you to the Keighley Dementia Advice Community Group, stallholders Barbara, Emma, and Pam, singer Craig Bradshaw, compere David Driver, and the entire Craven team for making the day such a success.
Springbank Care Home brought high energy later in the summer with its ‘Dancing Through the Decades’ Dance Hall themed Summer Fete. Residents led the fun across two packed lounges, enjoying live music, dancing, and a buffet spread alongside relatives, friends from sister homes, and local Conservative Councillors from Silsden, Steeton, and Eastburn.
Bringing the season’s festivities to a grand close, Steeton Court Nursing Home hosted an Alice in Wonderland Summer Fete. The afternoon was filled with laughter, tasty treats, games, and entertainment for residents and guests as fundraising totals were compiled.
Philippa Young, Spellman Care’s Group Operations Manager, said: “Our summer fetes are always a highlight of the year, and it was wonderful to see residents, families, colleagues and local communities coming together across all four homes. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed their time, energy and generosity, helping us raise more than £1,200 for residents’ activities and the charities our homes are proud to support.”
The grand total of over £1,200 raised across the four events will go directly towards funding special activities and outings for residents, as well as supporting vital charitable initiatives.
Spellman Care is now busy planning it’s next charitable appeal, with plans in the pipeline to collect unneeded spectacles for the Keighley Lions Club.
