Ghyll Royd Care Home is proud to announce the expansion of its care portfolio with the introduction of a new General Residential Care service, successfully completing the home’s capability to provide every type of care for the elderly under one roof.
Driven by an ethos of continual improvement, this milestone builds upon the tremendous success of the home’s dedicated dementia community, Blossom, which was officially opened just under three years ago by the then Lord Mayor of Leeds. In response to a growing demand from families across the Aireborough community seeking the same high-quality environment for general residential needs, Blossom has naturally evolved into a fully integrated General Residential & Memory Lane Community. This thoughtful development means Ghyll Royd can now seamlessly support a wider range of individual journeys, ensuring that residents can continue to age in place with comfort, dignity, and continuity of care, regardless of how their support needs may change over time.
Crucially, because Ghyll Royd has over 25 years of specialized experience in complex nursing and high-acuity care, residents and their families gain an unparalleled level of security. Unlike options that may only offer standard residential care, Ghyll Royd has the clinical expertise and advanced infrastructure to seamlessly support individuals whose physical health or medical needs become highly complex over time.
Over the years, Ghyll Royd has found that some individuals chose to move into one of the home’s specialized nursing units to receive only Residential Care. They did so purely to have the peace of mind that if their physical health developed in the future, they would never face the stress or disruption of having to find a new home. This latest development solidifies Ghyll Royd’s long-standing commitment to its residents, providing a beautifully dedicated space where anyone with residential care needs can truly flourish.
The introduction of the General Residential service builds upon a rich history of care at Ghyll Royd, which has thrived on a sense of family, warmth, and belonging since it was acquired by the Spellman family in 2001. Those with general residential care needs will find the home’s location both peaceful and exceptionally well-connected. Nestled in a central setting surrounded by mature trees, extensive gardens, and nature, Ghyll Royd is just a short walk from Nunroyd Park, Esholt Woods, and Guiseley town centre. Furthermore, situated directly opposite the Westside Retail Park, it provides the perfect base for residents to stay active and deeply connected with the local area.
Life at Ghyll Royd is defined by an active, engaging lifestyle. The home boasts a dedicated team of Activity Coordinators who organize a diverse calendar of events, while the company’s private minibus and dedicated driver offer regular trips out. Beyond local excursions, residents benefit from an innovative ‘residents network,’ which sees them regularly invited to Spellman Care’s sister homes. This unique initiative allows residents to build lasting friendships, maintain meaningful connections, and socialize outside of their immediate home environment.
Robee Gelido, Home Manager at Ghyll Royd Care Home, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to introduce General Residential Care to Ghyll Royd. By expanding our services, we are fulfilling our commitment to offering a complete pathway of care for the elderly in our community. Every single aspect of this new service is rooted in our core values of Kindness, Dignity, and Compassion. The evolution of Blossom into a General Residential & Memory Lane Community allows us to be incredibly responsive to our residents’ individual journeys. Whether someone requires a little help getting ready in the morning, or simply the peace of mind that a dedicated team is always there, we provide a safe haven where care truly feels like home.”
Putting its residents first is at the very heart of Ghyll Royd’s philosophy. To firmly protect and respect the privacy, daily routines, and personal space of the people who call the home their own, the team is consciously breaking away from the standard format of a traditional open day for the launch of General Residential Care.
Instead, to celebrate this exciting new chapter, Ghyll Royd will be hosting an exclusive, pre-booked Showaround Day on Thursday 4th June 2026, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. This special event is tailored for local families currently looking to move a loved one into care, as well as those planning ahead for the future who wish to familiarise themselves with the options available locally. The day is also designed for home carers who are looking for a short-term break, a well-deserved rest, or to arrange respite care to cover an upcoming holiday. Ghyll Royd previously announced that its diary for short-term respite care is now open through until the end of October, subject to availability.
By managing attendance strictly through prior appointments, the home ensures its calm and familiar environment remains entirely undisturbed. Visitors booking onto the Showaround Day will enjoy invaluable one-to-one time with Home Manager Robee Gelido, providing a perfect opportunity to get expert answers to any questions regarding the wider care system or Ghyll Royd itself. Guests will also have the opportunity to take a comprehensive tour of the home and its beautiful grounds, learn more about daily life, and sample some of the amazing food freshly prepared by the home’s talented chef.
Residents at Ghyll Royd benefit from comfortable and modern bedrooms, an onsite hair salon, and a strictly pet-friendly policy that welcomes furry friends to visit.
Local individuals, families, and carers who would like to experience this unique community are invited to book their personal viewing today by contacting the home directly or booking online at https://spellmancare.co.uk/ghyll-royd/ghyll-royd-care-home-showaround-day/.
